Why Do I Need a Wedding Planner and Should I Hire a Bridal Consultant?

Personal and Family Complications - It is more complicated now then it was when our parents were married.  More common for
couples to marry across ethnic, cultural, religious and racial backgrounds. More couples have been previously married.

Confusion About Etiquette - Most people are confused about proper wedding etiquette and procedures.  They feel more secure
having a professional on the scene.

Not Enough Time - More couples have jobs and their mothers are working outside the home.  This leaves little time for planning
and carrying out all the detailed tasks required to put on a wedding.

Too Far Away - Brides live in another part of the state or country from where the wedding will take place.  They need someone
on the local scene to manage the daily planning details.  It is usually a great burden for the bride or groom's parents to handle
it alone.

Planning a wedding can almost be a full-time job. Many brides do not have the time, the knowledge, or the interest in doing it
themselves. If you can afford to hire a wedding planner and do not want to deal with the stress of making sure all the details
come together, you may want to consider a wedding planner.
If you have a limited budget or have a very clear idea of how you want your wedding then you may want to consider doing the
planning yourself. This newsletter and the Internet can help. Check out all the wedding planning information that you can find
online. A good place to start is getting a copy of our free wedding planning calendar. Just click on the link below.
Professional wedding services are available to assist you with almost every aspect of your wedding preparations from printing
the invitations to arranging quotes and bookings, as well as decorating the venue for the reception.

A wedding planner, coordinator or consultant can almost act as a couple’s personal assistant, taking care of as many, or as few,
preparations as you deem necessary.  In addition, the wedding planner may also have a network of regular suppliers at his or
her disposal, through which some cost savings can be made.

Professional cooks, bakers, cake decorators, venue decorators, dressmakers, drivers, florists, hair stylists, make-up artists, a
master of ceremonies, DJ’s, musicians, photographers, printers, stationers, travel agents, videographers and banquet help can
also be employed to assist with preparations or to contribute to your day’s requirements.

If you determine that it would be best to hire someone with experience to help plan your wedding then these hints may help.
The terms 'planner', 'consultant' and 'coordinator' mean pretty nearly the same thing. Ask friends and others in the wedding
industry to recommend a consultant. Interview a number of consultants and ask the following questions:

1. Do you have a business license?
2. Do you have references? Can you provide the names of past clients and wedding vendors that recommend your company?
3. How many weddings have you handled?
4. What formal training do you have?
5. Do you receive a fee from the service providers you refer?
6. How do you charge for your services?

You and the consultant will need to have a good relationship. If the personalities don't work well together, it will only cause you
more stress. Make sure the contract has an escape clause in case problems arise.
